All TOEIC tests are specifically created to assess language proficiency using real-life work situations. TOEIC Bridge test scores provide meaningful feedback about test-takers’ strengths and weaknesses, along with a TOEIC score description that lists skills belonging to test takers at various levels.

The TOEIC Bridge test offers an international standard for academic institutions and language training programmes to measure English-language skills against.

The test uses everyday vocabulary, phrases and key expressions used in real-world tasks and provides information that helps you to:

  • show instructors you are prepared for the next academic level
  • show employers the level of their employees’ workplace English skills
  • be placed in the appropriate level of academic or workplace programmes
  • establish personal language-learning goals and monitor progress
  • discover which language areas require improvement

The TOEIC Bridge test is available in paper or online formats, and measures individuals’ ability to read and listen to everyday English. The test does not require special knowledge or vocabulary beyond that of basic workplace English and everyday vocabulary.

The test takes approximately an hour and a half is divided into two sections (Listening Comprehension and Reading Comprehension) each with 50 multiple-choice questions.

The TOEIC Listening section

The Listening section tests how well test-takers understand spoken English. In this section, you will listen to recorded statements, questions, short conversations and short talks in English, and be asked to answer questions based on what you’ve heard. The test has 4 parts, includes 50 questions and lasts 25 minutes:

  • Part 1: Four Pictures
  • Part 2: Question-Response
  • Part 3: Conversations
  • Part 4: Talks

The TOEIC Reading section

The Reading Comprehension section tests how well test-takers understand written English. In this section, you will read individual sentences, as well as longer texts, and answer 50 questions based on what you’ve read. The test has 3 parts and lasts 35 minutes:

  • Part 5: Sentence Completion
  • Part 6: Text Completion
  • Part 7: Reading Comprehension

The TOEIC Bridge test is not a pass/fail test. Test results place you within a certain score range and indicate your English listening and reading proficiency levels. Scores are determined by the number of correct answers, which are then converted to a scaled score. The total score is the sum of both sections’ scaled scores. The score report details the Listening, Reading and total scaled scores (ranged 30-100).

The TOEIC minimum score for the Listening section is 15, and the maximum score is 50. Likewise, the TOEIC score range for the Reading section is 15-50. Both scores are mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Because English-language skills may improve or decline over time, a score report will not be re-issued if two years have passed since taking the test. ETS does not require testing centres to retain test administration data beyond two years.

For the TOEIC Bridge test, you will be asked to bring a valid ID and two pencils. You will not be allowed to keep your personal belongings with you during the test, they must be kept in a locker at the test center.

The test begins with a 30-minute background questionnaire. During the test, we recommend you work carefully and quickly, without lingering on any one question. Pay attention to the time and pace yourself accordingly. Answer every question to the best of your ability and remember that you will not be penalised for wrong answers.

Being well rested and relaxed on the day of the test is as important as studying and practicing your language skills. We highly recommend that you:

  • Dress comfortably for any room temperature.
  • Eat a well-balanced meal before the test.
  • Allow yourself plenty of time get to the test centre.
  • Make sure you know your way to the test centre ahead of time.
