A book with annotated tests with corrections

Cécile Labro, Director of the Extracurricular Department of Hachette Education

Interview with Cécile Labro, Director of the Extracurricular Department of Hachette Education and Laurence Carlinet, Director of ETS Global, France.

Published by Hachette, "Les Tests Officiels Corrigés" succeeds the "Guide Officiel du Test TOEIC®", published in 2017. It is part of the collection of official TOEIC® test guides, the only TOEIC® Listening and Reading preparation books with official content approved by ETS.

This book offers seven complete TOEIC® Listening and Reading tests (including two paper tests and five online tests), detailed and annotated answers in French and free access to the TOEIC® Official Learning and Preparation Course (official online preparation tool) for seven days.

This new edition incorporates the changes to the TOEIC® test that came into effect on June 1, 2018, with questions in the new formats and explanations of the evolution of test content. Since June 2018, the TOEIC® Listening and Reading test has included new question formats and content that reflects changes in the use of the English language, and in the modes of communication commonly used in daily life and workplaces around the world.

For this launch, we interviewed Laurence Carlinet, Director of ETS Global, France and Cécile Labro, Director of the Extracurricular Department of Hachette Education.

Why did you publish a new TOEIC test preparation book?

Cécile Labro: In its first year of publication, the "Official Guide to the TOEIC® Test" became a must-have in the TOEIC® aisle confirming the strong demand for official tests designed by the test's creators. With the changes to the TOEIC® test that took place in June 2018, it was essential that we offer a new TOEIC® book.  This version not only contains official corrected tests but is the only book on the market integrating and explaining the official updates of the TOEIC® Listening and Reading test. This is its great strength: all its contents are taken from real versions of the test.

Laurence Carlinet: You can't change a winning team! The collaboration with Hachette is part of a long-term partnership and our customers are extremely satisfied to have the only book on the French market officially approved by ETS.

Does the book "Les Tests Officiels Corrigés" replace the "Guide Officiel du Test TOEIC"?

Cécile Labro: The "Guide Officiel du Test TOEIC®" still offers incomparable preparation for those who wish to take the test before May 31, 2018. For those who will take the test on or after June 1, the book "Les Tests Officiels Corrigés" will take over. With two complete TOEIC® tests in the book and five tests available online for seven days (via the TOEIC® Official Learning and Preparation Course), this is the ideal book for preparing for the test. All the new question formats of the TOEIC® test are explained in detail.

It also includes all the key points that made the first book a success: a clear presentation that follows the structure of the tests and answer keys that provide detailed explanations of the right and wrong answers to each question. This makes it possible to progress efficiently. A conversion table even makes it possible to assess one's score at each stage and to establish a plan for reviewing content.

Laurence Carlinet: Both books are designed and pedagogically articulated with the same logic. Their relevance for revision is linked to the planned date of the test and the preparation time required for each student. This is why "Les Tests Officiels Corrigés" is coming out in January.

Are there any future projects planned between Hachette and ETS Global?

Cécile Labro: The series of official TOEIC® test guides, the result of close collaboration between Hachette and ETS Global, will be further expanded in 2018 to meet growing demand and to adapt to the different needs and profiles of candidates seeking success and excellence. "La Bible Officielle des tests TOEIC®" will be published in April, with nearly 600 pages of questions, examples, explanations and official tests: a must-have for optimal preparation for the TOEIC® test!

Laurence Carlinet: It is important for the market to have a complete range of TOEIC® test preparation books that systematically include real test questions, the contents of which are revised by ETS. This offers the assurance of having reliable, high-quality content and helps candidates avoid unpleasant surprises when taking the test.
