On 7 November 2019, Goal Testing B.V. organised a Train the Trainer Day in collaboration with the Knowledge Network at Saxion University of Applied Sciences. The Knowledge Network “Lerende Leraren” (Teachers Learning) is a partnership amongst educational organisations in the region of Twente in the Netherlands, organised by the Teacher Training Academy of Saxion University. The theme of the day was “Innovation in Education From a Global Perspective”, and more than 130 participants, including teachers, teacher trainers, headteachers, managing directors of school boards and lecturers from the university were in attendance.
Workshops organised by Goal Testing focused mainly on the changing role of assessments within education. They discussed how research-based assessment designed to empower teaching, foster learning and go beyond measuring skills can support students’ learning journey and achievement in different ways.
We interviewed Jasper Kok, Managing Director at OPO Hof van Twente, and Ozgen Bagci, Educational Advisor and Teacher Trainer at Goal Testing. As we talked, they shared more information about the event, along with useful insights on how the TOEFL® Young Students Series can transform English teaching in the classroom. They talked in depth about personalising learning, bridging the gap between primary and secondary education, shifting the focus from end results to learning gains and the changing role of the teacher in the process.
